Question 1

How often should my chimney be inspected?

Accepted Answer

Plan on an annual chimney inspection, even if you use the fireplace infrequently. Cleaning and repairs depend on the findings, how you use the appliance and its instructions.

Question 2

How often does my chimney need cleaning?

Accepted Answer

There is no single schedule that fits every home. Fuel, burning habits and the venting system affect buildup. An inspection helps determine whether sweeping or more specialized deposit removal is needed.

Question 3

I just bought the home. Can I use the fireplace?

Accepted Answer

Do not assume that a general home inspection fully evaluated the chimney interior. Ask for the prior chimney report and arrange an appropriate chimney evaluation before using an unfamiliar system.

Question 4

What is the difference between a cap and a crown?

Accepted Answer

The cap is the hood and usually a screen over the flue opening. A masonry crown is the sloped top surface surrounding the flue. The two manage water in different places and can require different repairs.

Question 5

Does every chimney need the same kind of cap?

Accepted Answer

No. Masonry flues, metal liners and factory-built systems can need different listed or compatible components. Dimensions, appliance type, fuel and clearance determine the appropriate cap.

Question 6

Why choose stainless steel over galvanized steel?

Accepted Answer

Stainless steel offers improved corrosion resistance. Galvanized caps usually cost less upfront and may use a protective painted finish. The right choice also depends on fuel type and manufacturer compatibility.

Question 7

Can one cap cover two flues?

Accepted Answer

Often a suitable multi-flue design can, but flue heights, spacing, venting requirements and the mounting surface need checking. A photograph alone cannot establish the correct dimensions or suitability.

Question 8

How much does a chimney cap installation cost?

Accepted Answer

Our preliminary options are Economy $545, Standard $695 and Premium custom two-flue coverage $1,195–$1,595. These include cap, hardware and standard-access labor. Measurements, access, final scope and applicable taxes determine the written total.

Question 9

Are your online prices final quotes?

Accepted Answer

No. Online prices are planning estimates. We confirm the actual product, dimensions, roof access and condition before you authorize a final scope. Custom fabrication and repairs can change the price.

Question 10

Will a new cap fix my chimney leak?

Accepted Answer

Only if it addresses the actual entry point. Water may also come through the crown, flashing, masonry or adjacent roof, or result from condensation. A cap is not a substitute for a leak assessment.

Question 11

Can a cracked crown be sealed instead of replaced?

Accepted Answer

Some limited surface deterioration on a sound crown may be suitable for a compatible repair system. Deep cracks, loose material, poor shape or extensive damage may call for reconstruction. Condition determines the recommendation.

Question 12

What does white staining on chimney brick mean?

Accepted Answer

White deposits can be efflorescence: salts carried to the surface by moisture. It is a useful reason to investigate water movement, but appearance alone does not identify the entry point or full condition.

Question 13

Why are my bricks flaking?

Accepted Answer

Flaking, sometimes called spalling, can be associated with moisture and freeze-thaw exposure, among other causes. The damaged masonry and water source both deserve evaluation before choosing a repair.

Question 14

Do chimney-cleaning logs replace sweeping?

Accepted Answer

No. Chemical products do not replace inspection and appropriate mechanical cleaning. Have deposits evaluated instead of assuming a product has made the flue ready for use.

Question 15

What should I do if smoke comes into the room?

Accepted Answer

Stop using the appliance and arrange an evaluation. If there is a suspected fire, a carbon monoxide alarm, breathing symptoms or immediate danger, get outside and call 911. This website is not an emergency service.

Question 16

What if I hear animals in my chimney?

Accepted Answer

Do not light a fire to drive them out. Keep people and pets away from the opening and contact us to discuss evaluation. Wildlife removal or protected nesting birds may require a qualified specialist before a cap can be installed.

Question 17

How do I prepare for a visit?

Accepted Answer

Allow the appliance and ashes to cool completely as instructed, clear the working area, secure pets and share prior inspection reports. Tell us about inserts, gas logs, steep access or known damage before the appointment.

Question 18

Do I need to climb up and measure?

Accepted Answer

No. Send photographs taken safely from the ground if available. We confirm measurements and roof access before ordering; do not climb onto the roof to complete our form.

Question 19

Where do you provide service?

Accepted Answer

We are based in Southfield and accept service requests across the Detroit metro, including Oakland, Macomb and Wayne County communities. Send your address so we can confirm coverage and scheduling for the requested work.

Question 20

Is there a warranty and when is payment due?

Accepted Answer

Manufacturer warranty terms vary by the selected product. Any workmanship warranty, payment schedule, deposit and custom-order terms will be stated in your written proposal before authorization. Sending a request does not book or authorize work.
